Follow the, rarely ever Yellow Brick, Road

I've been taking pictures since the 70's, and have often found some of my best shots when I followed a road I've never been down before. Have I ever been lost? Absolutely, but that's part of the fun. Another part is in the scenes I discover in finding my way back home. And before the days of GPS's, you had to have a good sense of direction or stop and ask someone for directions. I've stumbled upon more beautiful scenery that begged for me to take it's picture while getting lost on unknown roads than many of my planned outings for pictures. So I encourage all of you landscape (as well as non-landscape) photographers to try a different route home every now and then. I'm willing to bet that the pictures you take along the way will more than make up for the anxiety over getting temporarily lost, even if you have to dig out the GPS to get back home. Follow the road. It may not be golden, but the experience may very well prove to be.
